Because people are not all the same, other people can be very different from you. They may look different, act different, talk different, or like different things than you do. You may think they are strange or even unpleasant. When Red introduces Herby to his friends Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Mo, he admits they’re rather peculiar, but sees past their differences and quirks.
If someone met you and thought you were strange, would you want them to still be nice to you and want to be your friend? Why is it good to show others you care about them even if they’re not like you?
We don’t have to approve if others do bad things, but we can accept other people despite their flaws and differences. There’s more to people than just how they look and what they do. At their heart, they are still people who could use a friend and want to be loved. So if someone seems different or strange to you, be accepting of them and try to “like them anyway.”
